One of the only two govt. general degree colleges in the district of Purba Bardhaman, GGDC Kalna-I began its journey with the blessing from Honourable Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee in the year 2015 as a constituent college of The University of Burdwan. Situated in the village named Muragacha of kalna-I block, this college caters to the extensive educational needs of the students from all the basic streams – Science, Arts and Commerce.

The college offers B.A. Honours course in six subjects (Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Philosophy and Education) and B.Sc Honours course in three subjects (Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics) and B.Com Honours in Accountancy.

Apart from the Honours courses this college also offers General courses in the aforementioned disciplines for students willing to opt for pass level education. All the courses are conducted according to the UGC recommended CBCS system which is extremely beneficial for the students. Apart from these regular courses, with the hope of making higher education accessible to all the learners, GGDC Kalna-I also has a thriving Netaji Subhas Open University Study Centre.

GGDC Kalna-I is proud of its diligent teachers, office staffs and non-teaching staffs all of whom are dedicated to the all-round development of the students’ qualities. Apart from being involved in different academic research activities in accordance with the true spirit of knowledge and education, the faculty members regularly arrange various academic, cultural and community activities in which students enthusiastically take part.

A sprawling lush green campus with garden and open ground allows the students to refresh their spirits and thereby provides a perfectly serene ambience conducive to both teaching and learning.

Well connected with different bus and train routes along with frequently available Auto, Toto and Trekker services, students from both the rural and urban areasof the district can reach the college with little effort.

The college aspires to brighten the academic scenario of this region by becoming an example of academic excellence in near future with the active participation and contribution of students, their guardians, faculty members, office staffs, non-teaching staffs and the government.
